Biographical / Historical

Dr. Flaum was born in El Paso, Texas on February 11, 1911 to Boris and Belle Flaum. In 1937 he married Hazel Catherine Anderson. They had two daughters. He attended the Universities of Texas and Arizona and then went to Columbia University from which he obtained both his A. B. and M.A. degrees. He then earned his Ed. D. at Colorado State College.

Flaum became a high school principal and superintendent of school first in New York and later in Nebraska. He was Director of Education at Drake University for 12 years. He was Dean of College at Minot State College in Minot, ND for four years.

From 1962-67 he was president of General Beadle State College. While in Madison, he belonged to Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, Masons, Elks, Kiwanis and the Presbyterian Church.

At the age of 85, Dr. Flaum died on December 29, 1996 in a Charleston, S.C. hospital. Private burial in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.
